Informal comments to the media by Ambassador Nicolas de Rivière, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, prior to the Security Council consultations on the Middle East.

Ahead of today’s (29 Feb) Security Council consultations on Middle East, Nicolas de Rivière, French Permanent Representative, said, “The humanity and situation for civilian population in Gaza is worsening by the day. We are confronted now with an unprecedented disaster.”

He explained, “Following this morning event in southwest Gaza and the death of more than 100 civilians while they were awaiting food aid, Algeria called for a Security Council consultation this afternoon. At this stage, there are still facts that have to be clarified. And of course, all the lights must be shared on these terrible events.”

He stated, “The humanity and situation for civilian population in Gaza is worsening by the day. We are confronted now with an unprecedented disaster.”

He concluded, “When this crisis is over, it is a matter of emergency to relaunch a credible political process between Israel and Palestine leading to a two-state solution.”
