U.S. President-elect Donald Trump arrives at Joint Base Andrews for a visit in Washington, D.C., for a transition meeting with President Joe Biden. Trump is also expected to meet with members of Congress while in Washington.

Trump has confirmed that Elon Musk will co-lead a new department that will “dismantle government bureaucracy”, signalling the growing influence of the world’s richest man over the incoming president.

Musk, 53, who spent an estimated $200 million to help Trump to get elected, will be joined by the former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who challenged Trump for the Republican nomination this year and is now a close ally.

Together they will lead a Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) that will slash spending and restructure federal agencies throughout the administration, the president-elect announced.
