FAO Egypt office, through its Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD), has built strong and enduring ties with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR). ECTAD has brought onboard experienced and qualified international and national experts in the area of epidemiology, diagnostics, disease control, programming, zoonosis, One Health and other similar expertise.
Through the USAID-funded Avian Influenza (AI) and Emerging Pandemic Threats phase-2 (EPT-2) programmes, FAO has been active in preventing and combating diseases that emerge from animals and spillover to humans through fostering multisectoral collaboration. These programmes have enabled the country to strengthen the capacity of the animal health system to prevent, detect and respond to endemic, emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases, specifically highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
Through this short documentary, ECTAD highlighted the successful partnership with Veterinary Service; and ECTAD’s role in improving animal health and summarizing its main achievements in Egypt.
