For 65 years, the Portuguese Armed Forces has contributed in UN Missions and operations. Portugal began with the inclusion of five Portuguese Military Observers in the United Nations Observation Group in Lebanon (UNOGIL), in 1958. Since then, Portugal has contributed with troop contingents, military observers and security forces to several UN peacekeeping missions, where they seek to promote global peace, stability and security.
